I am a 50something, new to SL, non-gamer lady who just wants to wander around SL and do my own thing. Hunts sound like a fun thing, but I can’t seem to find anything that really tells me exactly what they are and how to do them. Could someone explain it to me like I’m a 5 year old? LOL Thanks!

Hello! Welcome to SL and to hunting (hopefully).

Hunts are basically a tool used by SL business owners/Event organizers to get customers in the door. The most common type the grid-wide hunt takes place across the Second Life grid at various shops. Hunts can be big, with over 50 participants or small with 10 to 12 participants.

Hunt gifts or hunt prizes range in price from L$0 to L$5 for the most part but can sometimes be priced higher. Hunts often have themes and the gifts being given out might reflect that. The gifts/prizes are hidden in a hunt prim, usually, something that reflects the theme, like a flower, heart, or gift box (this all depends on the hunt, the listings here on the site will let you know what type of prim you are looking for).

Hunts are a great way to learn about new brands and visit places you haven’t been to before, all while collecting gifts/prizes for a modest amount of Lindens. You can do a hunt with 50 participants and come away with 50 new items all for only L$50 out of pocket.

Finding a hunt to do is easy, just take a peek at the site (Hunt SL), you’ll find listings by category Grid-Wide, Sim and Store on the right-hand toolbar. Under each heading will be the name of the hunt and the dates it is running. Click the link to find out more details about the hunt, like the theme, how many stores are participating, and the price of the gifts/prizes. Once you find a hunt you’d like to try you simply click on the link next to ‘start’ and you’ll be on your way!

Once in the store you’ll be looking for a hint giver (this looks exactly like the hunt prim you are searching for), which is usually located on the poster advertising the hunt. Click the hint giver to get a clue to where the hunt prim is hiding. Alternatively you can check the hunt’s website for a list of participating stores, hints, and sometimes photos of the gifts/prizes (the link to the site will be on the listings posted here on Hunt SL).

Last but not least you find that gift/prize pay for it and then move on to the next location. You can continue until you’ve found all the gifts/prizes or simply visit the stores that have your favorites.

I hope this helps you out. You can find a much more detailed explanation here: https://huntsl.com/hunters-help/
